Ex-Cultist Gets Death in ’95 Subway Gassing

A former doomsday cult member was sentenced to death for his role in the March 1995 nerve gas attack on the Tokyo subways that killed 12 people and sickened thousands. Yasuo Hayashi, 42, was one of five Aum Supreme Truth agents accused of being directly involved in the gas attack. He and four other cultists spread nerve gas in subways as the trains converged on Tokyo’s central government district during morning rush hour.
