The Sudanese government bombed civilians in southern Sudan this week, killing two people and critically injuring three more, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said Friday in a statement condemning the action.

Albright said Sudanese government planes dropped at least 12 bombs on the town of Lui, in Mundri County, southern Sudan, on Wednesday. Several bombs fell around a marketplace and near a medical facility managed by Samaritan’s Purse, a relief group based in North Carolina.

At least six other targets around Lui reportedly were bombed on the same day, Albright said, adding that she had asked special envoy Harry Johnston to raise the issue in meetings with the government in coming days.
