If you’re sick of hearing old Boston songs on classic-rock radio, you’re not alone. Tom Sholz, the founder-mastermind of the act, has also heard “More Than a Feeling” way too many times while at the gym or ice rink. So he’s making a rare emergence from hibernation and has just signed a deal with former Mercury Records Chairman Danny Goldberg’s Artemis Records for the first Boston album since 1994. “You will still be able to tell it’s Boston, but it’s Boston in the year 2000--which is much better than still sounding like 1976,” Sholz says of the album, which is about two-thirds finished with hopes for a summer release. . . .

With a debut album coming soon, the North Mississippi All-Stars (which includes two sons of revered roots-rock producer Jim Dickinson) has been in the studio on sessions with Jon Spenser and Lucinda Williams. The band’s blues-rooted rock is getting comparisons to everyone from ZZ Top to the Grateful Dead. . . .

Adult film star Jenna Jameson was reportedly nixed by the recording academy from appearing in Kid Rock’s Grammy show performance, but she’s got the Kid signed on to contribute a track to a compilation she’s putting together. Orgy, Tommy Lee’s Methods of Mayhem and Staind are already on board.
