Panhandling Law

Share

Re Los Angeles’ anti-panhandling law, March 3: Let’s leave the poor people on the street alone and deal with the truly offensive panhandlers: the ones who call us morning, noon and night to sell us long-distance plans and credit card services. Half the time they are computer-generated and dial right back when you hang up on them. I’ve even received computer calls at 9 a.m. on Sundays. Our current laws put the burden on us to tell each offender not to call again; this system does not protect us from constant intrusion.

There must be some way to outlaw telemarketing calls to residences that will pass muster with the 1st Amendment. Please focus on that instead of harassing people who don’t even have a home to intrude upon.
