Ruthlessness Shouldn’t Be Quality to Admire

Share

Blessed are the barracudas?

Are ruthlessness and cunning attributes to be championed? David Geffen’s ability to use, exploit and betray makes him rich and famous [“Geffen Biography Stirs Up Old Feuds, Triumphs,” The Biz, March 7]. People are willing to go back into business with Geffen because they are greedy. Or because they fear his power.

It’s no mystery. It is disgusting.

The media glorify people who become grotesquely wealthy and downplay their negative impact on society. How irresponsible of The Times to print “What Would Machiavelli Do?” in the same section of the paper that my kids read.
