Whoever has been using a freezer at the Heritage Park Aquatics Complex as a secret storage place for dead birds is a mystery.

Fifty frozen birds, neatly packaged in two large plastic freezer bags, were found in a freezer in a side room.

“We found the birds in the freezer a week ago and threw them out,” said aquatics specialist Shelby Roznos.

The frozen specimens then mysteriously reappeared Wednesday.

A specialist with Irvine Animal Services told Roznos that the frozen birds may have been gathered as feed for large birds of prey.

“They were packed very nicely, with 30 birds tightly packaged in one bag,” Roznos said.
