A police search of wooded areas Monday failed to flush out the man suspected of killing four people and kidnapping his ex-girlfriend during a rampage last week.

A line of 60 police officers, spaced about 100 yards apart, marched through two state parks about 15 miles from Baltimore in hopes of finding Joseph Palczynski.

“Nothing and no one has been found,” said police spokesman Bill Toohey. Police would not say what led them to the parks, but they say Palczynski obtained outdoor equipment over the past week.

Police say Palczynski, 31, shot and killed three people March 7 while kidnapping his estranged girlfriend, and then fatally shot a fourth person the next day as he tried to steal a car. The former girlfriend escaped Wednesday night.

Palczynski resurfaced in Virginia, stealing guns and a van, police said.
