Police in Grozny
* I was deeply disturbed by your March 11 Saturday Report about the Russian special forces unit in Grozny. There is occurring a systematic genocide of the Chechen people and Chechen culture by Russian military forces, with particularly brutal atrocities committed by the OMON.
Your correspondent bonded with these men, romanticized them and portrayed them as worthy of our respect. In fact, they have committed heinous crimes of torture, the murder and rape of innocent civilians and ongoing terror against a people caught in the cross hairs of Russian military adventurism and domestic Russian politics. These units are deserving of universal scorn and condemnation.
