Ruling Against School Vouchers

Share

Hurray! The voucher system in Florida has been suspended because it’s against the separation of church and state (March 15). Let’s work together to improve public schools--these children are our future. We spend money to save forests and other public entities for the future--why not children?

Mostly old people vote and their stingy attitude is reflected in the votes for school money. In Garden Grove the people voted not to raise the bed tax on hotel rooms (March 9). It would have had no effect on them, and most cities in Orange County have higher rates. These old people see the words “raise taxes” and they see red. Am I 76; or am I nuts?

Our government has no problem paying Medi-Cal and Medicare payments to hospitals owned and run by the Catholic Church. It issues food stamps that can be used to purchase Kosher food. Are these practices “establishing a religion”?

Should our government force our children into public schools or simply provide the funding for parents to choose where they can obtain the quality, publicly funded education they have been denied?

The fundamental failure of so many government schools is proof that what we really need is a separation of school and state.
