Jackson Buys Matanzas Creek

Matanzas Creek, one of the top producers of fine wine in Sonoma County for more than 20 years, now belongs to Jess Jackson, the marketing wizard behind industry giant Kendall-Jackson.

The $45-million sale, completed last week, adds Matanzas Creek to Jackson’s Artisans & Estates label, which includes smaller wineries such as Lokoya, Cardinale and Hartford Court.

Matanzas Creek owners Bill and Sandra MacIver, who recently moved from the winery’s Bennett Valley location to a retirement home on the Mendocino Coast, will stay on in an advisory role.

Matanzas Creek produces roughly 35,000 cases of wine a year. Jackson reportedly plans to slowly increase that using grapes from other nearby vineyards he owns.
