Big Inning Helps OCC Beat Dons

Orange Coast scored six runs in the fifth inning and held on to beat visiting Santa Ana, 6-5, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday.

Santa Ana scored a run in the ninth and had runners on first and third, but OCC reliever Drew Parkin struck out Carlos Pasillas to end the game.

It was the fifth save for Parkin. Mike Carey (2-5) pitched eight innings and retired 12 of the final 13 he faced for the victory.

Eric Wiethorn had a two-run double and Ryan France had a sacrifice fly for OCC (7-14, 2-8) in the fifth.

Santa Ana is 18-2-2, 7-2-1.

In other conference games:

Cypress 16, Golden West 9--Jeff Ruziecki tripled in the tying run in the eighth and scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Snapp for visiting Cypress (18-3, 5-3).

Ben Francisco hit a grand slam in the ninth for the Chargers.

Ty Harper of Golden West extended his hitting streak to eight games with a double that drove in two runs in the seventh.

Riverside 3, Saddleback 2--Jason Farmer’s triple in the sixth inning knocked in two runs, and Monte Farmer struck out 10 for the Tigers (19-4, 7-3).

Gary Alesia got an RBI when he drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh for Saddleback.
