SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The romantic strains of a concerto fill the air at David’s Bridal in Northridge, where a tuxedo-clad maestro sits at a grand piano. Upon closer look, you realize the maestro is a mannequin and the music is canned.

No matter, the salon atmosphere is heightened by carpeting and plush furnishings that you can sink into. Add walls of mirrors and the mood is set.

The space doesn’t seem cluttered by the hundreds of gowns on racks. Wedding gowns range in price from $99 to $1,000, with most falling somewhere in between. Sizes go from 2 to 24, and the inventory is deep.

A few familiar designer names are visible, and several Oleg Cassini “exclusive” creations with reasonable prices are promising.

One Cassini with a tank bodice of lace and a full matte satin shirt is $549.

Most of the bridesmaids gowns are $130, and there are numerous styles and colors. Dresses for flower girls are $99. With these prices, you can dress the bridal party for a little more than $1,000, the cost of the wedding gown alone at many salons.

The shop also carries accessories--veils, shoes and bags--in designer names at reasonable prices.

It’s hard to beat a combination like this, which is why David’s Bridal has more than 100 stores across the country, including the recently opened San Fernando Valley location. Bridal consultants and alteration professionals are part of the staff.

David’s Bridal, 19240 Nordhoff St., Northridge. Hours: Monday-Friday 11-9, Saturday 10-6, Sunday 12-6. (818) 407-0744.
