Too Many Pets

* “Curbing of Excess Pets” (March 17) only quoted the breeders and those who have a stake in keeping the status quo. The animal rescuers and adoption groups work day in and day out to pick up strays off the streets (many of which are purebreds), find homes for abandoned animals, work with the shelters providing hours of volunteer time and spend their own money to educate Angelenos, as well as spay and neuter countless dogs and cats. But not a quote from them. We only heard from the breeders who fill the shelters with unwanted pets and not one of whom has done a darn thing to stop pet overpopulation.

* * I have two dogs. Both have been neutered and had their rabies shots--one eight months ago and one six months ago. Yet, I’m still waiting to get the license applications from the Department of Animal Regulation. How does the City Council expect the department to carry out its grand plans if it can’t even manage basic licensing?
