MetaCreations Unit in Pacts With AOL, Adobe, Nike

A MetaCreations Corp. unit signed three licensing agreements and got a promise of an investment from America Online Inc. AOL will license Metastream 3.0, a three-dimensional Internet technology, and make an investment in Metastream Corp., the unit owned by MetaCreations and Computer Associates International Inc. New York-based Metastream agreed to give Adobe Systems Inc., a maker of design software, access to technology to create and deploy interactive 3-D content on Internet sites. Nike Inc. also will distribute 3-D content. Shares of Carpinteria-based MetaCreations closed off $4.50 at $26.38 on Nasdaq, after reaching a 52-week high of $35.50. Shares of MetaCreations, which owns 80% of Metastream, have risen more than fourfold in the last year.
