The City Council denied a developer’s request Tuesday to build a car service station near the gates of Nellie Gail community, despite city zoning codes allowing an automotive business there.

EZ Lube President Michael Dobson requested to build a facility at the northeast corner of Western Country Plaza at Oso and Moulton Parkways, across from the Nellie Gail and Quail Creek communities.

“In 35 hearings, I’ve never seen anything like this,” Dobson said, who was surprised by the denial because he received support from the city planning staff and both Nellie Gail and Quail Creek homeowner associations. No residents attended the meeting to oppose the project.

“We’re going to talk to a lawyer,” Dobson said. “This just can’t be legal.”
