Eighty-four of Ventura County’s graduating high school seniors have been selected by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation.

The students will be honored at a May 20 dinner at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library near Simi Valley. Three of them will receive $5,000 scholarships. The winners will be announced at that time.

The finalists were chosen from among 7,500 graduating seniors at 21 high schools in the county. The selections were based on student essays, letters of recommendation and the students’ leadership roles at their respective schools.

“We wanted to find a way to honor these distinguished young men and women who have achieved so much throughout their high school careers,” Executive Director Mark Burson said.

The foundation is a nonprofit organization that sustains the presidential library.
