I’m sorry that Tom Shales didn’t enjoy “The Miracle Maker” as much as I did (“Biblical ‘Miracle Maker’ Is No Flashy Feat of Clay,” April 22).

Shales writes that the action was “observed by a little boy, a generic little boy.” The show contained numerous references to that character as Jairus’ daughter.

The wording “In my Father’s home, there are many rooms” is not a dumbed-down simplification. Those are nearly the exact words found in the New International Version, one of the more accurate translations of this era. It is hardly a concession to children in the audience to communicate with modern English rather than poetical language nearly 400 years old.
