The city informed the former owner of an abandoned Arco service station and minimarket on the southwest corner of Western and Cerritos avenues that the property must be cleaned up, reported City Manager Terry Matz.

The owner has 15 days from the time the letter was sent out this month to make the correction. If the owner does not comply, the city may choose to file criminal charges, Matz said. He said the gas pumps must be removed and the soil cleaned of any remaining toxic chemicals from the former station closed more than six months ago.
