Judicial Compassion

Re “Man Gets Probation for Killing His Ill Wife,” May 5.

It warms my heart to know that there are compassionate judges such as Superior Court Judge Herbert Curtis in Ventura County.

Although Earl Lindquist violated the letter of the law, out of love for his suffering wife he placed his own future in jeopardy and ended her suffering.

Until California has an Oregon-type law on the books allowing a terminally ill patient to request a timely end to pain and suffering, there will undoubtedly be other cases like that of Lindquist. Let us hope that sympathetic judges like Curtis preside over them.
