For the first time, the luxury Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is offering a special routing through the Swiss Alps via Lucerne this summer; its regularly scheduled runs go through Zurich. On July 19 the train will leave Venice, Italy, on a route that includes Verona, Italy; Innsbruck, Austria; Lucerne and Paris. The journey ends in London via Hovercraft. The trip may be taken as an eight-night package, priced from $4,895 per person, double occupancy; that excludes air fare from L.A. but includes a two-night Venice stay before the train departs, two nights in Lucerne and two nights in London. Or it can be taken as a train-only, four-night package at $1,970 per person, double occupancy. Tel. (800) 524-2420, Internet https://www.orient-expresstrains.com.
