Irvine’s math champs, 7, the rest of the competitors combined, 8.

Those were the results for Irvine’s elementary students at the Orange County Mathematics Field Day recently. In addition to the seven first-place finishes, they also snapped up nearly a third of all awards.

“They are going to get pretty sick of us pretty soon,” said Dorothy Terman, who coordinates the math and science program for the Irvine Unified School District.
