Thomson Chairman to Retire Within 2 Years

Thomson Corp. Chairman Kenneth Thomson, head of Canada’s richest family, said he will retire from the newspaper and electronic publisher within 24 months. He nominated his son, David Thomson, 42, as his successor. The Thomson family owns 73% of Thomson Corp., a Toronto-based company with a market value of $21 billion. In a recent report on Canada’s richest families, the National Post estimated the Thomson family fortune at $13 billion. Thomson, 76, has been chairman of the company founded by his father for more than 25 years.
