Central American Studies at CSUN

* Re “Latino Studies Become a Central Focus at CSUN,” May 15.

As president of the Chamber of Commerce Salvador-California and a resident of the San Fernando Valley, I was delighted to read about the creation of a Central American studies curriculum at Cal State Northridge--the first-ever program in the United States.

Our chamber supports the visionary efforts by students, staff and administrators at CSUN in enhancing the educational background of our future employers, leaders, neighbors, co-workers and employees.

It is estimated that there are at least 100,000 registered voters of Central American descent in the bigger L.A. area. We hope that the concerns of such voters will be listened to by our mayoral candidates, especially since in a close mayoral race, the Central Americans might very well decide who our next mayor will be.
