Mariposa Elementary School unveiled its new marquee Friday--a large sign functioning as a visual megaphone--to let parents know what’s happening at the school.

The PTA raised funds and saved for about a year until it reached the $6,800 needed for the illuminated sign and and its concrete foundation. The design of a butterfly, the school’s mascot, is engraved on the front.

Principal Sherrill Clevenger said it took many cookie-dough sales and raffle cards to get the cash, but the PTA agreed it was worth it because the marquee will enhance communication with parents.

“We think if we can post our current events, we’ll get more input,” Clevenger said.
