Companies Fined for Not Filing Toxics Report

Two Southland companies have been fined by federal environmental regulators for failing to file reports estimating their releases of toxic chemical compounds.
Kirkhill Rubber Co. of Brea will pay a civil penalty of $35,700 for failure to file reports estimating releases of asbestos and zinc compounds, among others, in 1995. Mission Kleensweep Products in Los Angeles has been fined $13,183 for failure to properly report its releases of glycol ethers and phosphoric acid for 1996 and 1997.
The companies were found to have violated the federal Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, said Enrique Manzanilla, director of the Environmental Protection Agency’s cross media division.
