* Re “Baptist Panel Rejects Women as Pastors,” May 19: I applaud the Southern Baptists for standing up for what they believe in. If their opinion is contrary to the majority church opinion, that’s OK. There are plenty of religions to choose from, and dissenters are free to change their denomination. This is America, after all, and we have the freedom of thought.
We should not chastise the Baptists for basing their doctrine “as qualified by Scripture,” any more than we should interfere with the Muslims’ adherence to the Koran or with the atheists’ opinion that there is no God.
