Limbaugh Says ABC Gave Him Audition

Rush Limbaugh may not be a legitimate candidate for ABC’s “Monday Night Football,” but he confirmed Monday that he at least did an audition with play-by-play announcer Al Michaels in Los Angeles last week.

“I thought it was excellent, to tell you the truth,” the conservative radio talk-show host said of the audition in an interview with Washington radio station WMAL. “I surprised myself.”

Michaels declined comment, and so did ABC spokesman Mark Mandel.

Limbaugh had lobbied on his radio show for the chance to audition. Skeptics believe his chance will end with the audition but then Don Ohlmeyer, the producer in the 1970s, was brought in to do something different.

“I played this out and have been very serious about it all along,” Limbaugh said. “There have been discussions about whether or not I can handle this and do a Monday radio show at the same time. There is no question that I could.”

Members of the ABC crew, however, are required to be on location a day or two early for production meetings and interviews.
