Fighting Pests in Schools
* Re “Superintendent Urges Schools to Turn Up the Heat on Pests,” April 20.
This positive article described a new and natural way of exterminating pests in schools within Ventura County. This simple idea involves injecting streams of hot air into a tented classroom to kill insects, and can be finished in a day’s time. The cost is the same as would be for chemical methods, and does the job just as efficiently as its nasty and toxic alternative.
Our county’s superintendent has recommended that all schools in Ventura County begin using this technique as an alternative to fumigating classrooms. Now that’s a great idea.
In light of all the information we have recently been given about pesticides and their unhealthy effects on people, it is nice to know that someone is attempting to change the way we go about our practices! I believe it is common knowledge by now that the further we can keep pesticide chemicals away from out children, the better.
This heat-based, nontoxic method of pest control deserves major applause, and sounds like a huge step in the right direction.
