School Chief
The decision by the Los Angeles Unified School District board to exclude the public from the selection process of the next superintendent is correct (May 24). The board will be held accountable if the district does not improve the education it provides to students. It is unfair to the board if it is forced to consider public opinion in making its selection.
In selecting the board, through the democratic process known as voting, voters empowered the board to make these types of decisions. At this point, the public must trust that the people they selected are capable and operating in the best interest of the community.
