Only one person has challenged a traffic citation--out of more than 200 who have received them--based on red-light camera systems operating at three intersections, said Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Tim Jansen.
The department began issuing the citations, based on photographs from cameras at Del Obispo Street and Ortega Highway on April 10. Photographs from that intersection have resulted in more than 170 citations. Fines are $271.
Cameras at Del Obispo and Camino Capistrano and at Del Obispo and Camino del Avion began taking photographs of violations May 8, resulting in about 30 citations in 11 days.
