Microsoft Suit

* Thank you for publishing “ ‘Government Knows Best’ Is Simple Arrogance” (Commentary, May 28), against what surely looks like a personal vendetta on the part of Assistant Atty. Gen. Joel Klein and Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson. This would not be so incredible if the analysis and remedy decisions were being made by computer-literate people in the government, rather than computer illiterates, as is obvious from their remedies and their predictions of what the remedies will do for the public.

What we as voters need to know is how the two major party candidates stand on this issue. Instead of talking about “saving Social Security” endlessly, please disclose how they stand on private enterprise, the right to the fruits of one’s lifelong work and the right to design software and hardware without government interference. This issue is at least as important as the usual cliches the candidates are willing to repeat. Your paper will do a service in publicizing their positions in this sham suit long before we get to vote for or against them.
