Thieves Hand Out Halloween Candy While Robbing Family

Share

Robbers in Halloween masks tied up a family and ransacked their home, periodically taking time out to answer the door and dispense candy to trick-or-treaters, police said Wednesday.

The group of five to eight robbers rang the doorbell of the home on Melrose Circle at about 7:30 p.m. Halloween night, then burst in and bound the three adults and two children inside with rope. One of the robbers fired a shot from a handgun during a brief struggle with one of the victims, but no one was seriously injured, police said.

The invaders looted the home for about half an hour, at times handing out candy at the door, Police Lt. Bill Lewis said.

The men, who spoke Vietnamese to the victims, fled with an unknown amount of valuables in the family’s car. The car was found abandoned about a quarter of a mile away.

Family members freed themselves and called police.
