Modular Classroom Allowed at School

With permission to open a modular classroom before minor construction work is completed, Phoenix Ranch school will be able to let all 17 fifth- and sixth-graders return to class on campus in the next two weeks.

About 120 parents and students from the private elementary school attended Wednesday’s Planning Commission meeting at City Hall to support the request to move into the 24-by-40-foot modular building.

Phoenix Ranch operators asked for 18 months to add 10 parking spaces to the east side of the campus at 1845 Oak Road, as well as to install more lighting, fences and plant new trees.

But Planning Commission members granted permission to open the modular classroom only on the condition that the improvements be completed within a year.

“Now I can bring my fifth- and sixth-grade class home” by mid-November, said Phoenix Ranch co-owner Frances Alascano.

The students had been studying at a commercial location a few blocks away from the main campus, she said.

Phoenix Ranch has 279 students. There are three preschool classes and 12 kindergarten through sixth-grade classes.
