Haile Selassie

Share

* I was pleased to read that the late Emperor Haile Selassie (of Ethiopia) was given what appears to be a proper burial 25 years after his death (Nov. 6). For all his shortcomings, his legacy will live forever in the hearts and minds of my generation of Ethiopians. Returning home to Ethiopia in 1998, after having lived in the U.S for 25 years, I quickly realized that anything still standing that’s worthy of mention in that country was made possible by Haile Selassie.

Someday in the near future, we who rebelled against him with such reckless abandon will file in line for hours to visit his tomb.
