Anti-Piracy Technology Attacked

Share

The Secure Digital Music Initiative, a consortium formed to combat digital music piracy, acknowledged Wednesday that two of the five key copyright-protecting technologies under review had been successfully attacked in a recent public contest. The group said it considered only one of the attacks to be significant, however. The comments came after a team of researchers claimed they had successfully defeated four of the technologies, which were designed to separate authorized copies of digital music files from unauthorized ones. The team’s attacks may not have been evaluated by SDMI, however, because the researchers did not submit them for a second round of tests.
