Journalism Group to Honor Teacher

Camarillo High School teacher Ellen Kersey will receive an award from the Journalism Education Assn. at its national fall convention in Kansas City on Nov. 18.

Kersey, who is advisor for the school’s yearbook and newspaper, is being recognized for her contributions to journalism in schools both locally and nationally.

The association is a national organization of media educators with a membership of more than 2,200 advisors and teachers.

Kersey was the local chairwoman of the association’s spring convention in Anaheim, where she helped organize an auction to benefit the Student Press Law Center. She has also served as the president of the Southern California Journalism Education Assn. for four years, and has judged numerous student contests.
