The UC Irvine School of the Arts has been renamed the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, university officials announced this week.

The change honors the late Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress, whose family foundation has donated $5 million to the arts school.

The Donald Bren Family Foundation donated another $2.5 million toward the school’s goal of $10 million. Trevor was the stepmother of Donald Bren, chairman of the Irvine Co.

The gifts will be used to provide discretionary funds for the school, establish three endowed professorships and support a partnership program with local elementary and high schools.

Trevor began her career in 1921, debuting on Broadway at age 11. She acted in more than 60 films between 1933 and 1987, and won a 1948 Oscar for best supporting actress for her performance in “Key Largo.” She died in April at the age of 90.
