Thanksgiving for Homeless: Free Meal and Gospel Music

Holiday Tables: Thanksgiving food will be available at restaurants all over town next Thursday. Here are some places you can drop by (as for moi, my dinner table is already full, folks).

Brunches:

The House of Blues will dish up a free gospel brunch for homeless people only. Volunteers will be bringing them in from L.A. shelters for this traditional turkey meal with gospel-music entertainment; it’s served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you know any needy people who could benefit from some Southern hospitality, bring them by.

Brunch Through Dinner:

Bill Dertouzos has joined the staff as chef at Cezanne restaurant in Santa Monica’s Le Merigot Hotel. He fills the void that opening chef Chris Blobaum created when he left in May. For Thanksgiving, Dertouzos offers a four-course meal that includes such choices as Japanese pumpkin ravioli with bay scallops and a slow-roasted hen turkey with chorizo gravy. Served from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and then again from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. The price is $42.

Thanks to a recent buyout, the L’Ermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills has been renamed Raffles L’Ermitage (which reminds us of a character in an 19th century British novel, but never mind). David Myers, newly installed as chef at the hotel’s restaurant (named the Restaurant), has made his way here from Patina where he was the executive sous chef. His four-course Thanksgiving menu includes your choice of a roasted organic turkey with mountain sweet potatoes or a Liberty Farm duck with chestnuts, shaved foie gras and vanilla-bean turnip puree. The menu is available from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. $55.

Pangaea Bistro in Le Meridien Hotel lays out a buffet of roasted turkey and traditional trimmings. In addition it has a soup station, a dessert station and an iced seafood station. This meal is served from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. $55 for adults; $25 for children 12 and younger.

The Ritz in Newport Beach has a three-course menu with choices like wild mushroom cappuccino with morel foam, roasted turkey, broiled lamb, smoked pork chops and filet mignon. The menu is available from noon to 9 p.m. $37.50 for adults; $15 for children younger than 12.

Salt Creek Grille will be serving its regular menu plus two holiday menus. The traditional turkey dinner is $19.95. The prime rib dinner comes with mashed potatoes, soup or salad, and dessert. It’s $22.95 plus tax and tip. A kid’s turkey dinner is $7.95. It’s open from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Dinners:

Campanile lays a Thanksgiving spread with a twist. The turkey comes two ways: as a rosemary-charred breast and confit of leg. The giblet gravy is laced with foie gras. Vegetables include glazed sweet onions and Blue Lake beans. Starches run from a savory bread pudding to a gratin of sweet potato. Most dishes are served individually, but some are served family-style. Dinner is from 2 to 7 p.m. The rate, not including tax and tip, is $50 for adults, $25 for ages 12 and younger.

The Polo Lounge’s four-course menu includes a choice of roasted turkey with giblet gravy and Maui onion and sage corn bread dressing. Dinner is available from 2:30 to 10 p.m. $65.

Rock serves a four-course menu with the main course and sides set down family-style for the table. The free-range turkey comes with roasted root vegetables, sauteed Brussels sprouts, pretzel stuffing and more. Your choice of appetizer includes a roasted beet salad, corn crepes with Black Forest ham, or fritto misto salad of fried baby artichokes. Dinner is served from 4 to 10 p.m. $29.95 for adults; $14.95 for children younger than 12.

Senor Fresh Restaurant will serve a traditional turkey dinner to the homeless and needy free of charge. Spread the word to those you know who might like this offering. The meal starts at 10 a.m. and will last until the food runs out.
