AML Communications Inc. in Camarillo reported a net loss of $1.5 million or 25 cents per diluted share for the second fiscal quarter that ended Sept. 30.

This compares with a net loss of $90,000 or 1 cent per diluted share for the same period a year ago.

Net sales for the quarter were $1.2 million, compared with $2.3 million for the same period one year earlier.

“Results for the quarter were impacted by the deferral of a product shipment that was requested by a major customer, and to manufacturing inefficiencies associated with products that were shipped to that customer,” said Kirk A. Waldron, president and chief executive. “Nevertheless, we remain optimistic that our revenue for the year will match or exceed last year’s levels.”

Waldron said he does not know when the customer, who was not named, will agree to accept more shipments. He said the company received more than $4 million in new orders during the quarter, raising its backlog to more than $8 million, which is the highest in AML’s history.

AML manufactures amplifiers and related products for the global wireless industry.
