The bright star due south and almost a third of the way up the sky at 6:30 p.m. is Fomalhaut, which is the brightest star in the small constellation Piscis Austrinus, the Southern Fish. Fomalhaut is 11 times as bright as our sun and lies only 25 light-years away. Formahaut is one of the loneliest stars in the sky; there are no other bright stars anywhere near it.
