Analysts say the market will be on the lookout for action aimed at following up on the coordinated intervention by the Group of 7 industrialized nations two weeks ago. Both banks are expected to leave their benchmark lending rates unchanged.

* Earnings reports will begin to trickle in this week, and Alcoa Inc. reports third-quarter earnings Thursday, making it the first of the Dow 30 components to issue results. Walgreen Co., PepsiCo Inc. and Micron Technology Inc. are all scheduled to issue earnings this week.

* A federal judge in Washington is likely to rule Tuesday on a lawsuit to block Ivax Corp. from selling a generic version of Bristol-Myers Squibb’s breast-cancer drug Taxol. Santa Monica-based American Bioscience Inc. is seeking to rescind Food and Drug Administration approval of Ivax’s generic Taxol, arguing the FDA exceeded its authority in approving Ivax’s application before a legal dispute in California and New York courts has been resolved.

* Senators probably will make a final decision this week, possibly as soon as Tuesday, on increasing the number of immigrant high-tech workers for technology companies. The bill to provide more six-year visas is sought by software and other high-tech companies.
