Abortion Issue

Re “Gore Must Challenge Bush on Abortion Issue,” Commentary, Sept. 29: I voted for Bill Clinton twice, but this time my vote isn’t going to be held captive by the pro-choice issue so that I have to take everything else Al Gore brings with him, including lying, wacky environmental ideas, the Hollywood left, the current civil rights leaders and promises for the government to do absolutely everything for everyone.

George W. Bush is conservative, but “the captive of the religious right” is just another empty statement liberals like to throw around to try to scare people into voting for Gore.

Let me get this straight. Bush, the man largely responsible for more executions than any other person in modern American history, said, “As president, I will work to build a culture that respects life.” Hey, G.W., ya can’t have it both ways. Life is life.

Re approval of the abortion pill (Sept. 29): Another giant leap for women’s rights, but a huge mistake for their physical and emotional well-being.

As a “survivor” of a near-abortion experience (my mother wanted to abort me, and I have the letter to prove it)--just think, with RU-486 my mother could have killed me in the privacy of her apartment. Then, I wouldn’t be here today helping women rebuild their lives and asking them to protect themselves from such harm.

I’m glad someone intervened on my behalf.
