Housing Becomes Less Affordable in State

Housing affordability in California dropped in August to its lowest level in more than eight years, as home prices continued to climb, the California Assn. of Realtors reported. Based on CAR’s index, San Diego was the least affordable county in Southern California, with only 23% of households able to afford a median-priced home, down from 29% a year ago. Orange County was the second-least affordable county at 26%. In Ventura County, affordability was 31%; Los Angeles was 33%; Riverside and San Bernardino counties ranked the most affordable at 47%.
