Johnson Chides NBA Olympians

Magic Johnson, appearing on “Late Show With David Letterman” Friday night, was sharply critical of the performance of the U.S. men’s basketball team in the Olympics.

“I was embarrassed,” Johnson said. “A two-point win, no way.”

Johnson said the U.S. should have dominated instead of playing several close games, holding on to win against Lithuania in the semifinals only when a last-second shot fell short.

“That shouldn’t have happened,” he said.

Johnson played on the 1992 team with Michael Jordan and Larry Bird that was the first with NBA players to compete in the Olympics, winning by an average of 43.8 points with no game closer than 32.

“We were really the only Dream Team,” he said.
