Grant to Fund Adult Program at Library

The Oxnard Public Library plans to create an adult literacy program with a state grant.

During the next two years, the library will receive $96,175 to help hire a literacy coordinator and an office assistant.

“We’re in the process now of trying to recruit staff,” said Barbara J. Murray, the library’s director.

The new literacy workers will find volunteers to help instruct adults and provide tutoring.

The library currently has a reading program, but its focus is on children.
