From Times Wire Reports

A prosecutor was shot and killed in southern Spain in an attack authorities blamed on the armed Basque group ETA. Hours later, a car bomb exploded but no one was injured. Luis Portero, 59, head state attorney for the Andalusian Superior Court, was shot in the head as he entered his apartment building in Granada shortly after 2 p.m., a police spokeswoman said. Two hours later, a car bomb exploded on the same street. The ETA, which seeks independence for northern Spain’s Basque region, has claimed responsibility for the killing of 12 people this year and is blamed for at least one other.
