Loving the Imperfect

Many thanks to Jamie Green for giving valued words on those who are less than ideal (“ ‘I Love the Imperfect,’ ” Voices, Oct. 7). Years ago, my brother, Chuck, came into our lives severely retarded. While doctors and therapists shook their heads and urged institutionalization, we felt his warmth, humor and his zest for music of any kind. Chuck passed suddenly in his sleep a few months ago, and I am still learning from his life to value every moment, to hear the music and to laugh and see humor. Without him, my life would have been darker and lonelier. Green reminds us all to see with more than the physical eye.
