Mountain Bikers Respect Trails

Share

* I have to commend Bob McCarter in his response to mountain bikers not respecting the wilderness areas in Orange County, “Bikers Leave Wake as They Break Trails” (Sept. 4). Truer words were never spoken!

As an avid mountain biker here for the last 15 years, I have never seen a more respectful group of people anywhere.

I have seen bikers remove trash they found on the trail, respect posted signs in sensitive wildlife areas, and meet with other bikers and groups to provide maintenance that contributes to safer trails for everyone.

After the El Nino flooding, several of us assisted rangers with hazardous areas and flooded roads. You will not meet a more concerned group of environmentalists than most mountain bikers I have shared the trails with.

If you want to point the finger at anyone for damage to wilderness areas, go talk to the developers who keep clawing away at the limited greenbelt left in Orange County.
