Reagan Memorial

Bravo, Bruce J. Schulman. I totally agree (“A Case of Too Much Love, Too Soon,” Opinion, Oct. 8). A job well done, especially by a public servant, should be acknowledged, but within the scrutiny of time. Ronald Reagan (supposedly) fought the “Evil Empire.” Now a Republican agenda seeks to place his name and image on any and every public work (one for “each of the 50 states”) while erecting monuments during his lifetime.

Let us be reminded of what Soviet zeal and idolatry toward public officials did to that nation. If current Republican wrangling is successful, can Chairman Mao-style effigies and giant obedience posters--displayed during a future president’s actual office tenure--be far behind?
