Arborist to Donate Trees for CSUCI
A local arborist will donate between 300 and 500 trees to the Cal State Channel Islands campus in the next couple of months for an arboretum.
John Boething, owner of Boething Treeland Farms, with headquarters in Calabasas, said his wholesale business generates too many trees and he is happy to donate some to worthy causes.
“I hate to throw them away, and we do this a lot for nonprofits,” he said. “Once a week we give trees to something or other.”
An arboretum is a display of trees with plaques describing the trees, their history and what they look like. The arboretum may be scattered throughout the campus so pedestrians in many areas could enjoy the trees, Boething said.
He said he would donate different kinds of trees, including palms, pines, broadleaf evergreen and broadleaf deciduous, with a concentration on trees that thrive in a Mediterranean climate.
